Astronaut Lisa Nowak arrived home in Houston today, a day after she appeared in court in Orlando, Florida, to face charges that include the attempted murder of a romantic rival. As friends and strangers tried to imagine what could have caused her apparent meltdown, a few clues emerged.

Perak ACA chief slams heads who fail to act on graft cases

IPOH: Newly-appointed Perak Anti-Corruption Agency director Samsiah Abu Bakar has come out with guns blazing against heads of government departments who had ignored corruption among staff.

In a blistering warning yesterday, she said that she would seek clarification from those who had not taken action against such staff.

“I will get feedback from the department heads. I want to know their reasons for not taking action against the (corrupt) staff... I was shocked when I went through the records,” she told reporters after taking over from Perak ACA acting director Nooraziah Abd Manaf here yesterday.

Samsiah (picture) said some 21 cases dating back to 2001 had not been attended to.

These involved cases where there was a delay in initiating action, including warnings and suspension of salary.

“These are cases which could not be prosecuted in court due to a lack of evidence, but we knew there were elements of corruption involved. The ACA subsequently recommended departmental action against staff concerned."
